DescriptionCARBOLIEVA 450 mg contains Carboplatin, a platinum-based chemotherapy (anticancer) medicine. It acts by forming DNA cross-links, which inhibit DNA synthesis and repair, leading to death of rapidly dividing cancer cells. Compared to cisplatin, carboplatin generally causes less kidney and nerve toxicity.
Uses

Carboplatin Injection is indicated for treatment of:

  1. Ovarian cancer
  2. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
  3. Small cell lung cancer
  4. Breast cancer
  5. Head and neck cancers
  6. Cervical and other gynecological cancers
    (often used in combination chemotherapy)
Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Myelosuppression (especially thrombocytopenia)
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Electrolyte disturbances
  • Mild alopecia

Serious side effects:

  • Severe bone marrow suppression
  • Hypersensitivity reactions (more common after repeated cycles)
  • Renal function impairment
  • Ototoxicity (hearing loss or tinnitus)

Regular CBC and kidney function monitoring is essential.

Dosage

Dosage is calculated based on renal function using the Calvert formula (AUC-based dosing).

Common regimens:

  • AUC 4–6 IV on Day 1 of each cycle (every 3–4 weeks)
  • Alternative: 300–400 mg/m² IV every 4 weeks

 Administered as an intravenous infusion under oncologist supervision.
